Mark Drakeford is an Assembly Member, chair of the Welsh Government’s Health and Social Care Committee, and professor of Social Policy at Cardiff University. His social/political beliefs mirror the values of co-production with ‘a preference for co-operation and collaboration rather than competition’ and a commitment to re-engaging with Wales’s traditions of mutuality and reciprocity (hoorah to that say I).

Rosie Farrer, formerly with the Design Council’s Public Services by Design programme and NESTA Lab, now at Spice London. She will talk about the value and impact of service design, co-design and co-creation for effective and sustainable delivery.

Elke Loeffler, Chief Executive of Governance International, will update us on some of the innovative projects being undertaken in Scotland as part of the Scottish Government’s commitment to build services around people and communities. Elke was commissioned by SG to run a series of training workshops and was a keynote speaker at a Scotland-wide co-production conference.

Megan Mathias is a Director of the Kafka Brigade, a not-for-profit action research team dedicated to reducing bureaucracy and increasing the value delivered by public services. She also has insider information, having worked on public service innovation and improvement for the Welsh Government. She will help us disentangle ourselves from red tape (triple hoorahs to that).

Paul Thurston leads the Service Design Programme at Design Wales. Previously Paul was head of design at the social innovation agency, thinkpublic, working on projects that improved patient, staff and management communications and resulted in new services and products for the UK public sector. He will form an exquisite double-act with Rosie.

And once we are all inspired by what’s possible, we will set up an action group to move co-production to the top of the Welsh participation and citizen engagement agenda.
